Project Enjoy Collection 2024: Q3

This is just a part of my ink collection. I recently found another letterpress tray at an antique shop for a good price, once I get it hung up I will be able to put more ink bottles/boxes on display.

I feel like I went on a bit of an ink adventure for the past three months. I spent a lot of time trying to beat the heat and 100% humidity (seriously northern Minnesota should not be this hot!!!), and thus I spent a lot of time inside. Work chaos due to multiple factors has been at a peak and my pens were along for the ride. I’ve been working to rein in buying new things (aside from birthday goodies), because I made the bold decision to keep my preorder of the Diamine Inkvent Black Edition and add on the Colorverse Colorvent. So… basically I’ll be getting 49 new inks in December (seriously, any time I say or write that aloud I kind of have to laugh at myself). But, hey, life is short, might as well enjoy playing with inks.

Anywho, onwards to Q3 update for 2024. Red came back into my rotation like an old friend, I feel like I barely utilized any of them in 2023. My ink choices overall ranged far and wide, especially when it came to shimmer and sheen. If you’d like to see the previous quarters you can fine them here: Q2 and Q1.

My ink log is kept in a Hobonichi Weeks.

I am experimenting with writing down pen and ink combos on these Tsubame Ink Collection cards, still trying to decide what information they should have on them, but I like the idea of having essentially an easy visual for inks used in a month.

A nice round number with 50 different inks used, up four inks from Q2. This higher number is due to a change in how I’m recording my ink use. My housemate often has me help her refill her pens since I have a large collection of options. I decided back in June or July that I would start listing those out as well, considering that I am using the ink after all. I think about seven of those are on this list because of her ink choices.

I’m actually surprised by how many pink inks I used this quarter, as it’s not usually a color I am reaching for consistently. It’s the pinks that I wasn’t expecting to enjoy, like Ferris Wheel Press Radiant Rosewing, that were sometimes the most fun.

Currently Inked

Ferris Wheel Press Roaring Patina Black - Kaweco x Galen Leather Sport Carmine 14K BB ‘journaler’ - I was enjoying this ink so much last month, that I decided I would use it as my header ink for October. The dark blue-black, red sheen, and gold shimmer give it spooky vibes.

Diamine Cardinal - Kaweco Art Sport Tiger’s Eye 14K M ‘selvedge’ - Another inkvent ink that I had forgotten about. This is a really good true red. It doesn’t lean orange or pink. The flow is really good with this ink as well as the nib I currently have on the pen tends to be dry.

Sailor Ink Studio 123 - Kaweco Art Sport Terrazzo B ‘imperial’ - When you need a fun gray-purple, this ink is the one. While it is lighter than its cousin Sailor 223, it does show off the chromashading better. Didn’t get a ton of chances to use it in the last week, but looking forward to using it more in the next.

Colorverse Coast Redwood - Kaweco liliput copper M ‘stub’ - I’d forgotten how much I like this ink. According to my ink log I haven’t used it since 2022 which is a shame. While I am planning to refill with a different ink, I have a feeling I will be returning to this earthy red more often.

Colorverse KLSV-II - Kaweco liliput fireblue 14K ‘journaler’ - I’ve had this ink sample floating around my ink sample box for quite a while. There was a period of time, probably 2-3 years ago, where I wanted to try all of the Colorverse standard lineup, but not buy bottles. Samples to the rescue. It’s a good thing with this one since I don’t really find it different enough from several other sheening blues that I have. Not enough to be exciting anyway. It’s a good ink, but too close to Diamine Polar Glow and just a shade darker than Colorverse Supernova (which is a blue I adore) to need a full bottle.
